With the delivery of more than 915,500 cubic yards of specialized and high resistance ready-mix (equivalent to close to 110,000 trips of mixer trucks, which if they were parked in a row would represent to cross the Golden Gate Bridge more than 420 times) and more than 220,000 tons of cement, Argos participated as a strategic ally in the construction of the Túnel de La Línea, one of the most important infrastructure works in Colombia which, in addition, becomes the longest tunnel in Latin America.
This project, just about to be inaugurated, has an extension of 8.5 kilometers long and is made up of three short tunnels, 13.4 kilometers of double roadway and five viaducts. Due all the above to connect the Central Mountain Range between Cajamarca (Tolima) and Calarcá (Quindío), and to communicate the port of Buenaventura with the center of the country.
We are proud to have participated as allies in the construction of this mega-work that represents a great milestone for the infrastructure of our country and Latin America. This was a project that represented great logistical and technical challenges that Argos had face with commitment. We are sure that this strategic work of interconnection will contribute enormously to the progress of Colombia and its people. This reflects our high purpose to continue contributing to the construction of dreams that drive development and transform lives".
Tomás Restrepo, Vice-President of the Colombia Region.
In order to contribute to the success of the project, and thinking of providing outstanding solutions to its costumes, Argos delivered specialized and high resistance ready-mix, of which the following stand out: the cast or pneumatic one: ideal for tunnel lining and slope stabilization in roads, mines, subway works and dams; and the hydraulic concrete, a fast laying product that provides greater resistance and, therefore, extends the useful life of the pavement.
On the other hand, for the production and dispatch of the ready-mix, Argos implemented its on-site plant model, allowing to supply the construction in real time and contributing to the air quality by decreasing the traffic of mixing vehicles. In addition, it developed a plan that guaranteed not only the supply of raw materials, but the fulfillment of high-quality standards and the technical accompaniment of the company's experts throughout the construction.
About the mega-project:
- Because of its 8.65 kilometers in length, the project is positioned in the ranking of the 20 longest road tunnels in the world.
- More than 6,000 jobs were generated during its construction.
- It has 17 connection galleries every 500 meters that allow connecting the main tunnel with the rescue tunnel to guarantee safe evacuation in case of any contingency.
- With the delivery of the first phase of the Túnel de La Línea and its complementary works, it is estimated that, in total, users will save 20 kilometers of travel between the west and the center of the country, equivalent to reducing their travel times by 50 minutes. When the work is completely finished, the savings in total travel time will be 1 hour and 20 minutes.
